Small Group Workshops

We conduct online and face-to-face, small group workshops. These can be targeted according to the needs of the group or team, be a group instrument debriefing or a team development workshop. We can also provide group workshops for people from the same organisation who are undergoing one-on-one coaching with us. These workshops can support and enhance the individual coaching and create a community of learning.

Team Kickstart

The Kickstart Program is designed to support the formation of the team and set it up for success with a level of ease that can be difficult for a team leader to bring to the process on their own. The program helps remove the uncertainty and ambiguity that affects a team at its beginning. It builds and develops the team faster and with less real-world consequences than if the team and its leader were left to work through it on their own.

Team Accelerator

This development program is designed in response to where the team is currently at in their performance and functionality. So regardless of their current state, the program will move a team to function at higher levels of performance.

Kickstart Program

Initial conditions can play a big part in the performance of a team down the track. The opportunity at the beginning to form the team and set it up for success is often overwhelmed by other priorities – especially a perceived lack of time and a desire (conscious or unconscious) to get on with the task. This is so even when the team leader recognises and understands the importance of forming the team for future as well as current performance.

The beginning can be a time of excitement and positive anticipation. But it is also often a time of task, process and role uncertainty. There can be lot of ambiguity around purpose, goals, approach and measures of success. Team members will have performance and social concerns, and are more likely to be intent on their own needs rather than those of the team. All this can drive the team to focus even more on task in order to avoid what can seem to be a difficult and complex process unrelated to the job.

At the same time, if not dealt with early and effectively, these concerns and matters of uncertainty and ambiguity will continue to surface during the life of the team, adversely affecting individual and team performance. Over time, the team leader can find more of their time is spent on maintaining the team than on developing them or on the task at hand.

The Kickstart Program is an effective means of forming the team early and effectively. It can take from a half day to two or more days in total depending on the situation and where the team is at. It can be taken in one hit or as a series of workshops and be customised to suit where the team is at in their formation. It maybe that you are heading a completely new team at the beginning of their project or are the new leader of an intact team. It maybe that your team has undergone some membership changes or that its role within the organisation or division has significantly changed. All these situations make giving deliberate attention to forming or reforming the team a highly effective and impactful input to the team’s performance and success.

For the Team Leader

The Kickstart Program also offers the team leader a great opportunity to improve their leadership skills through an add-on and enhancement to the program by including, to run concurrently with it, a series of coaching sessions for the team leader. These are designed to develop the leader’s leadership skills in both forming the team and continuing its development. The advantage of doing this concurrently with the Kickstart Program is that the program gives the coaching process a focus and a context for action, and the coaching enables the team leader to take a more effective role in the team’s formation.

Accelerator Program

For the online version of this program contact Aurora People to discuss what it looks like and how we can deliver it to suit your needs.

This program is designed to help move a team to higher performance. Its focus is on team development rather than simply team building and is designed to respond to the current state of the team and its needs. This can mean a number of things:

  • the team is working well but wishes to move up a level,
  • the team has a particular challenge in front of it,
  • the team’s interactions, communications or coordination has dropped in quality,
  • the team’s initial formation has not served them well.

This program may have some overlapping content with the Kickstart Program if it is deemed necessary to revisit the purpose of the team and to clarify team member roles, but the program’s attention is geared towards performance rather than formation. What we highlight in content and focus will be customised to match where the team is at, their needs and the outcomes the team is after. The length of the program will depend on this as well, though we recommend a minimum of one day. If a series of workshops is run then we have the opportunity to incorporate workplace activity that happens between workshops.

If a particular profile or 360-instrument has been used in the past for the team’s formation or development then it can be useful to redo the instrument and compare the past and current data. If this is not the case then we may recommend the use of a particular instrument if appropriate to the team’s current needs.

If there are particular models/tools the team or organisation use, we can incorporate these into the program by presenting, modelling and instructing their use and usefulness. We can also include our own models and tools that we have found to be useful to a team’s performance.

Overall, our methodology is to include participants in the learning process rather than simply ‘stand and deliver’. We use an experiential methodology as the basis of our program design. We facilitate and encourage discussion and debate, referencing the workplace reality wherever appropriate and respecting the experience, knowledge and perspectives of the individuals attending.

For The Team Leader

As with our Kickstart Program, we offer the team leader a great opportunity to improve their leadership skills through an add-on and enhancement to the program by including, to run concurrently, a series of coaching sessions for the team leader. These are designed to develop the leader’s leadership skills. The advantage of doing this concurrently with the Accelerator Program is that the program gives the coaching process a focus and a context for action, and the coaching enables the team leader to take a more effective role in the team’s development.
